We Are Locavores
Abma’s Farm is a 30-acre family owned and operated farm. We personally supply our farm market with over 95 different varieties of produce throughout the entire year. We plant small amounts every week so that we are continually picking each crop on a daily basis. This ensures that our customers receive the absolute freshest, most nutrient filled product!
All the buzz about farmers markets and buying local is nothing new to us. It is what we’ve been doing since the Abma Family began farming in Wyckoff over 85 years ago. Buying local, in-season food is smart, healthy and sensible!
Abma’s Farm, is your neighborhood LOCAVORE source.
Why eat local?
Locally grown food is typically harvested with 24 hours of your purchase, which means it’s fresher, lasts longer, and has greater nutritional value than produce found at a conventional grocery store. It also means less transportation and emissions, less packaging, less time, and less waste to get from the fields to your table.
Buying local supports the local economy as well as preservation of the environment. We are stewards of the land, which means every day is Earth Day for us! We practice responsible and sustainable agriculture to protect our farm for future generations. This means practicing soil, water, and wildlife conservation.
POULTRY & EGGS
We raise cage-free chickens and feed them a high quality, all natural diet fortified with healthy omega 3’s – and collect fresh eggs from our resident hens each morning and afternoon. Why some brown, and why some white? The brown eggs come from our 500 Rhode Island red hens (brown chickens), the white eggs from our 1,500 Leghorn hens (white chickens).
Duck eggs are seasonal and available by order only.
Vegetables from A-Z
Starting in early spring, we plant many different varieties of vegetables from seed, including lettuce, broccoli, cauliflower, and arugula. We continue planting throughout the spring, summer, and fall. Each vegetable has it’s own special season and harvest time.
Throughout the season, we grow different types of lettuce, cauliflower, several different types of peppers, bok choy, sweet corn, many types of tomatoes, green beans, red and white onions, swiss chard, turnips, different types of eggplant, squash, leafy and tuscan kale, garlic, chickory, raddichio, spinach, kohlrabi, leeks, and more!
Community Supported Agriculture Co-Op
CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture, a cooperative relationship between the farmer and their customers. Paying in advance before the season begins means you are committing to a “share” of our crop produc-tion. For the 20-week season, you will receive a wide variety of fruits and vegetables, as well as experience the diverse picking seasons on the farm. You will see first hand the bounty, success, and uncontrollable work of Mother Nature! All of our homegrown produce is hand picked at the peak of each item’s individual season to ensure the quality and flavor. Receiving a box weekly offers you the experience and variety of living on a farm without the hard work! By growing all of our produce from seed, we ensure our produce is GMO-free and all natural.
Our homegrown turkeys have been a holiday tradition for generations. Juicy and broad-breasted, our turkeys are available fresh throughout the year. They are raised on an all natural feed, hormone and antibiotic free.
We bake everything from scratch! All of our fresh ingredients are preservative free. We pride ourselves in baking the finest homemade pies, muffins, breads and treats from our own homegrown fruits and vegetables. Our famous pies include a very special strawberry rhubarb pie in spring, fruit pies in various combinations in summer and, of course, fresh apple and pumpkin pies in the fall.
